Buckman Springs and Boulevard Loop

This ride is a 37-mile scenic loop through the mountains east of San Diego, California. The hills are moderate.

Most of this ride runs through areas subject to winter snows and summer thunderstorms. Check the weather forecast before you begin and take appropriate protective clothing.

The ride starts and ends at the Buckman Springs Road interchange on Interstate 8. Water and rest rooms are available at the Buckman Springs Rest Area, which is accessible to bicyclists because the entrance is on Buckman Springs Road, not on the interstate highway.

Parking at the rest area is limited to eight hours, which should be more than enough time for the ride. However, it is illegal to park at a rest area to do something away from the rest area. Parking is available outside the rest area.

• 00.00 START at corner of Old Highway 80 and Buckman Springs Rd. Go south on Buckman Springs Rd.
• 05.43 Pass Oak Dr. Monument to Hatfield the Rainmaker.
• 10.08 * CAMERON CORNER. LEFT on Highway 94.
• 10.90 Railroad grade crossing. Campo Milling Corporation, now a museum.
• 12.71 Pass La Posta Rd.
• 17.22 Pass under high railroad trestle.
• 17.73 Pass Church road.
• 21.33 Cross Tierra del Sol Rd.
• 22.32 * BOULEVARD. Road merges with Old Highway 80. Turn sharp left onto westbound Old Highway 80.
• 22.82 Pass Tierra del Sol Rd.
• 24.67 * Pass Live Oak Springs Resort.
• 26.28 * Pass Church Rd. and Golden Acorn Casino.
• 26.56 LEFT to stay on Old Highway 80. See photograph.
• 31.18 Pass La Posta Rd.
• 32.76 * Pass La Posta Diner.
• 37.29 FINISH at corner of Old Highway 80 and Buckman Springs Rd.
